Description

Visit the Colosso di San Carlo Borromeo. 35 metres high, San Carlone is one of the tallest statues in the world.

The statue rises in the city of Arona where The Holy Archbishop of Milan was born on October 2, 1538. The Aronesi call the monument "San Carlone" because of its colossal proportions. Completed at the end of the 17th century the statue of San Carlo Borromeo is a hollow monument, made of copper plates supported by an iron and stone structure. The visitor can choose to reach the panoramic balcony at the foot of the colossus, or climb up to 35 metres. From the head of San Carlone you can observe the surrounding landscape, through the holes corresponding to the eyes, the nostrils and the ears of the saint.
The Statue is an excellent panoramic spot on Lake Maggiore and the surrounding hills. Single entrance to the terrace € 3.50, single entrance to the terrace and statue interior € 6.00.
